The name of plant viruses are given according to the major host of plant and the main symptoms of disease caused such as tobacco mosaic virus TMV ; , tomato bushy stunt virus TBSV ; raspberry ringspot virus RRV ; . On regard of the problems of classification please refer also to "Phytopathology" Bacterial viruses: are also known as pages, bacteriophages. Well known are the phages which infect Escherichia coli. Bacterial viruses are named by code letters or by a system of letters and numbers Bacterial infections may be a lytic infection such as caused by phage T2 or T4 infecting Escherichia coli causing it to burst which is called lyse. The phages infection of bacteria may be lysogenic, infected cells of bacteria show no signs of infection but retain the ability to produce infective virus particles. Nipah virus and Hendra virus[1417] textbfciteHendra Both viruses are member of the family of Paramyxoviridae both are included in the genus of Henipavirus. They are known to be able to infect a wide rage of hosts pigs, horses, cats, dogs and guinea pigs ; . The natural host of the Nipah virus are certain species of fruit bats Megachiroptera such as Pteropus vampyrus ; which are infected without being ill themselves. Though Nipah and its closely related zoonotic Hendra virus formerly called Equine morbilli virus EMV ; are not known to be transmitted by food there are cases known of transmissions from pigs and horses to mankind. So breeders and abattoir workers should take special care to avoid infection leading with sick pigs with Nipah virus infections.Sick horses with severe respiratory disease were reported to be the source of infection with Hendra virus in Australia. Once infected the death rate in humans is higher than 50%. There is no medication against the viruses. Only ribavirin can reduce the severity of the disease. It is recommended that close contact with body fluids and infected tissues should be avoided if Nipah infection is suspected. Respiratory secretions of diseased humans and animal contain the viruses. In an Malaysian outbreak in Nipah infected pigs were the cause of human disease. The virus carries therefore this name. Incubation time is between 4 and 18 days in some cases up to twelve months and is in most cases sub-clinical with influenza-like symptoms, high fever and muscle pains.Inflammation of the brain, drowsiness, disorientation, convulsions and coma. Menangle virus Menangle virus, a member of the Paramyxovirus family causes a disease in pigs with stillborns and deformed piglets and influenza-like illness in humans. Its host are fruit bats. Tioman virus Tioman virus is a member of the Paramyxovirus family and of the genus Rubulavirus. It is!
Kinetic energy is the best indicator of the severity of a vehicle's impact with a barrier. Kinetic energy is simply one-half the product of the vehicle's mass and its velocity squared. The test vehicles were loaded to a gross weight of 15, 000 pounds, which is unlikely to be greatly exceeded by actual attacking vehicles. An attacking vehicle's velocity at impact will depend on its engine and transmission system and the distance over which the vehicle accelerates before impact. Figure I-28 shows a velocity-vs.-distance curve for a typical truck of the type tested with a 360-hp engine ; .76.

Sis. The contribution of microtubules in regulating receptor recycling was also suggested by other investigators.20, 27 One may argue that the following two possibilities should also be considered in the mechanism of action of calcium antagonists. One is the possibility of the block of tonic internalization of [3-receptors similar to [3-blockade.24 The other is that modulation of membrane fluidity through the interaction with membrane lipid30'31 may regulate the increment of assayable [3-receptors. However, these effects of , Bantagonistic action by calcium antagonists17 and interaction with the lipid bilayer were observed at higher concentrations 10`4 M ; than the concentration of verapamil 10-6 M or less ; used in the present experiments. Thus, the contribution of the two mechanisms to the augmentation, if any, of [3-receptors could be excluded in our experiments. The relation between the effect of calcium antagonists on the [3-receptor density and that of blocking calcium current should be discussed. Hertel and Staehelin29 observed in C6-glioma cells that increased intracellular calcium ion activity inhibited the reappearance of the receptors but had no effect on their disappearance. In the present experiments, lowering the concentration of calcium ions in the medium to 0.1 mM induced no significant change in the [3-receptor density. The level of the intracellular calcium ion concentration attained by lowering the concentration of the calcium ion in the medium to 0.1 mM may not be comparable to that induced by calcium antagonists in 1.8 mM Ca2' medium. However, it may not be far from that, because the myocytes ceased to beat spontaneously as did the verapamil-treated cells. Furthermore, no change was observed in the density of [3-receptors in the four different calcium ion concentrations of the culture medium: 0.1, 0.9, 1.8, and 3.6 mM. The augmentation of receptor density by verapamil was still clearly seen in these conditions. Hence, we conclude that verapamil's ability to increase 3-receptor density in our study does not seem solely attributable to a decrease in the intracellular calcium ion concentration, which was induced by blocking the calcium current, but due to some other action or actions. We admit, however, that we do not know the exact level of the intracellular calcium ion concentration in the presence of calcium antagonists, because we did not measure it directly. Further detailed analysis is necessary to explore the role of intracellular calcium ion concentration in the recycling of P-receptors in cardiac cells. Clinical Implications The clinical implications of the present study are important, because calcium antagonists are widely used in daily clinical treatment. There have been a few reports concerning the withdrawal phenomenon of calcium antagonists, namely, the occurrence of severe hypertension, angina pectoris, and acute myocardial infarction.'4'32 Although the mechanism of and rebif.

Chris Willt On August 5, 1992, Mr. Willt was found slumped over in a booth at a St. Francis [ * 216] convenience store. Mr. Wilt, an 81-year-old man, was obese and a severe diabetic with a history of heart disease. He had a pacemaker and had been taking Comuadin, a blood thinner, prescribed to protect him against dangerous blood clotting. However, several days prior to the incident, Mr. Willt had refused to continue taking the Comuadin. Larry Gable, an emergency medical technician, testified that Mr. Willt had an irregular heart beat, difficulty breathing, and [ * 14] moist and clammy skin, and he could not speak. His right arm was limp, while his left arm was strong and rigid. Gable diagnosed Mr. Willt as having had a possible cerebral vascular accident or stroke. Gable did not know Mr. Willt was a diabetic. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Naramore was called to the hospital. When he arrived, Dr. Naramore stated, "Out of the way, he's an uncontrolled diabetic." Mr. Willt was given the drug Norcuron through an IV so could be intubated. Norcuron is a paralyzing agent which incapacitates [ * 309] the patient. After receiving Norcuron, a person cannot breathe on his or her own and must have someone artificially breathe for them. During intubation, a tube is placed down the trachea so air can be pumped into the lungs. At St. Francis Hospital, a bag is attached to the tube which must be squeezed manually bagging ; for the patient to be able to breath. All of this is normal procedure for a case of this kind. Several nurses chronicled the care delivered over the next 3 hours by Dr. Naramore and the nursing staff. This included continual artificial ventilation, pulse and blood pressure monitoring, administration of drugs, and cardioversion electric [ * 15] shocks to the heart ; to see if Mr. Willt's pacemaker would take control. Dale White, hospital administrator, testified Dr. Naramore told him that Mr. Willt had apparently suffered a massive stroke, his left pupil was fixed and dilated, and the case was futile. White testified Dr. Naramore said they could lifeflight Mr. Willt to a big hospital where he could be put on a ventilator, but it would be a waste of money since he would be a vegetable. Dr. Naramore opined that Mr. Willt was "brain dead" and wanted White's opinion on removing life support. White told Dr. Naramore that if Mr. Willt was "brain dead" and if he had a second opinion from a neurologist, then life support could be withdrawn. In December 1987, the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs of the American Medical Association issued a series of guidelines to assist hospital medical staffs in formulating appropriate resuscitation policies. See Council Report, Guidelines for the Appropriate Use of Do-Not-Resuscitate Orders, 265 J.A.M.A. 1868 April 10, 1991 ; . The Guidelines suggest that while there is a presumption favoring cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR ; because a patient in need of CPR is unable to express [ * 16] his or her treatment preference, an exception to that presumption is recognized where, in the judgment of the treating physician, an attempt to resuscitate the patient would be futile. Where the patient is unable to make a decision regarding the use of CPR, that decision may be made by a surrogate decision maker. "Physicians should not permit their personal value judgments about quality of life to obstruct the implementation [ * 310] of a patient's or surrogate's preferences regarding the use of CPR. However, if in the judgment of the treating physician, CPR would be futile, the treating physician may [make that decision]." Guidelines, 265 J.A.M.A. at 1871. In Barber v. Superior Court of Los Angeles County, 147 Cal. App. 3d 1006, 1018, Cal. Rptr. 484 1983 ; , the court recognized that a physician has no duty to continue treatment that is ineffective: "A physician is authorized under the standards of medical practice to discontinue a form of therapy which in his medical judgment is useless . the treating physicians have determined that continued use of a respirator is useless, then they may decide to discontinue it without fear of civil or criminal liability. By useless [ * 17] is meant that the continued use of the therapy cannot and does not improve the prognosis for recovery. Horan, Euthanasia and Brain Death: Ethical and Legal Considerations 1978 ; 315 Annals N.Y.Acad. Sci. 363, 367, [ * 217] as quoted in President's Commission, supra, ch. 5, p. 191, fn. 50.

Recent research on agricultural nitrogen losses in a California orchard system investigated soil biological and chemical activity and concluded that organically-farmed soils experienced less nitrate loss than conventionally farmed soils. The authors speculated that similar reductions in nitrate loss might be found in non-perennial cropping systems as well. Kramer et al., 2006 ; A summary of research results from a 22-year experiment comparing conventional and organic cropping systems at the Rodale Institute in Pennsylvania was published in the journal BioScience in 2005. Authors concluded that a number of environmental benefits--reduced chemical inputs, less soil erosion, water and energy conservation, and improved soil organic matter higher soil carbon ; and biodiversity--were superior in the organic systems. They observed that a legume-based organic system experienced higher nitrate leaching in several years, but not consistently. They also observed that the conventional system typically required less labor. Pimental et al., 2005 ; A 2004 article in the journal Nature described how some organic principles--including attention to improving soil quality structure, health, and biota ; and desire to reduce pesticides and other purchased inputs--are being adopted by non-organic "conventional" or "mainstream" farmers around the world. Practices like cover cropping and crop rotation, which are mainstays of organic farming systems, are being adopted by some non-organic farmers as well. MacIlwain, 2004 and refresh.
The new Helex occluder appears to offer a number of advantages over currently existing transcatheter occlusion devices. The ease of implantation, atraumatic design, high closure rate, simple removal technique, and compatible biological profile shown in this animal study suggest that this device will be a useful addition to the therapy already available for treatment of ASD. The data reported here support the initiation of multicenter controlled human clinical trials

Effect of Increases in ABP on Plasma VP and OT Levels Stimulated by ANG II Infusion of 100 ng kg 1 min 1 ANG II significantly increased plasma VP and OT levels and MAP above baseline values Fig. 1 ; . Similarly, ANG II CPT significantly increased plasma VP and OT levels and MAP above baseline values Fig. 1 ; , and these increases in VP, OT, and MAP were not significantly different from those increases in rats treated with ANG II only. To prevent the increase in ABP associated with the infusion of ANG II, rats were treated with either DZX or MXD in addition to the infusion of ANG II CPT. DZX or MXD markedly attenuated the ANG II-evoked increase in ABP, but plasma VP and OT levels did not differ from rats infused with ANG II CPT P 0.7 from overall ANOVAs at each time; Fig. 1 ; . Rats treated with ANG II CPT MXD displayed a significantly lower MAP than those treated with ANG II CPT after 5 min, and it remained significantly lower throughout the test. Furthermore, MAP of rats treated with ANG II CPT MXD was not different from baseline values from 30 to 45 min Fig. 1C ; . Similarly, rats treated with ANG II CPT DZX displayed a significantly lower MAP than those treated with ANG II CPT; however, MAP of rats treated with ANG II CPT DZX was significantly elevated compared with baseline values through the initial 30 min Fig. 1C ; . As expected, rats infused with ANG II only or ANG II CPT displayed a significant bradycardia throughout the infusion of ANG II Fig. 1D ; . In contrast, HR of rats treated with ANG II CPT DZX or ANG II CPT MXD was not different from baseline values for the initial 30 min, and thereafter HR was elevated significantly above baseline values Fig. 1D ; . Posmol did not differ between any treatment groups infused with ANG II at baseline, 15 min, or 45 min Table 1; P 0.2 from overall ANOVA ; . BLOGG BROTHERS, No. 24 to 38 Spencer Street, Melbourne. John Kendrick Blogg; Kendrick Henry KENDRICK JOHN Blogg. ; BLOGG, the founder of this wellmanufacturing of firm known chemists and importers, is a native He studied of Toronto, Canada. chemistry, and passed an examination under Professor Croft at the Toronto University, obtaining 97 per cent, of marks. He came to Melbourne in the year 1877, and within a few days of his arrival joined the staff of Messrs. Herbert Rocke and later date, joined him in partnerThe beship shortly afterwards. ginning of the firm was, of course, on a small scale, and, though its growth was rapid, it was greatly hampered by the protective duties levied by the Berry Government, then in power; and, strange as it may appear, Victorian manufactures declined in public appreciation as the effect of the protective duties became evident. The duties increased the prices of many of the imported articles, and thus brought them into comparison with the locally made goods, and the area of about 30, 000 square feet, with large yard, boiler-shed, soapboiling department, and stabling for The offices and fourteen horses. sample rooms are on the ground floor, fronting Spencer Street, and immediately behind is the despatch department, opening into Flinders At the side entrance is Lane. placed a large weighing machine, so delicately sensitive that it will weigh half an ounce or two tons with equal This scale, which is accuracy. nickel-plated on the exposed metal parts, and elaborately set up, was originally imported for the first great Melbourne Exhibition, and was used there for weighing visitors, who Blogg Bros. paid a small fee. bought this scale from the original owner. Behind the despatch department, to the south, is the cordial and fruit syrup bottling department, and this is unique in its arrangement for bottling syrups. Large vats of syrups and cordials are placed on the floor above, and the contents conducted, by means of flexible tubes, to tables on the ground floor. These tables are covered with bottles, clean and dry, ready for filling, and the syrup tube is placed alternately over the mouth of each bottle, enabling it to be filled with the greatest ease. An ingenious little arrangement, responding to the touch, instantly stops the flow. This method prevents the exposure of the delicate syrup to the atmosphere, and possesses the advantages of being expeditious, cleanly, and economic. The engine which drives the machinery in the factory is placed in this room, It is supported by a solid bed of masonry built up from the foundations of the cellar, affording a very solid security from vibration. Fine, dry cellars, covering the entire area of the building, afford convenient and cool storage for such articles as limejuice, wines, and raspberry juice. Of this latter article a large stock is always kept, as Messrs. Blogg Bros believe in making raspberry vinegar and reserpine.

2000 Revello Barolo: Medium red. Aromatic nose of raspberry, sandalwood, smoke, cedar and menthol. On the lean side, and slightly minty. Not particularly tannic, but owing to the wine's modest flesh and sweetness the finish comes across as a bit dry. 86 points 2000 Revello Barolo Vigna Gattera: Good deep red. Fruitier aromas of raspberry and spiced meats. Juicy, bright red berry flavors complicated by minty and saline nuances. More primary and a bit denser than the regular Barolo. Here the tannins are also a tad dry, but hit the palate later. 89 points 2000 Revello Barolo Giachini: Medium red. Complex nose melds smoke, flint, minerals, dried flowers and menthol. Lush and sweet, but with a light touch. Lively flavors of strawberry and minerals. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lingering sweetness and minerality. This needs three or four years of additional cellaring. 90 + ? ; points 2000 Revello Barolo Conca: Good deep red. Ripe aromas of strawberry syrup and baking spices, with a subtle floral overlay. The fullest, broadest and sweetest of this set of 2000s, with very ripe flavors of strawberry syrup and nutmeg. This is 14.8% alcohol, vs. 14.5% for the estate's other 2000 Barolos, yet the wine does not come off as heavy. Finishes with big, chewy tannins and excellent length. 91 points 2000 Revello Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata: Good dark red. Subtly complex aromas of currant, mocha, menthol and nutmeg. Very ripe for this bottling but without quite the floral perfume and lift of the 2001. Dominated today by a sappy spiciness. A bit subdued in the middle palate, and yet this is rather approachable today. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins.
